Opening My First Splinterlands Alpha Booster Pack

On This Month (September/2021) three years ago (2018) I started a journey that would become the best financial decision of my life. No, I didn't decide I was going to go to college and "make something of myself". No, I didn't find my lifelong career path. What I did do is Purchase my very first Splinterlands Booster.

Sure I already had my toe dipped in the game with collecting any free cards that I could in various giveaways. I can even list the names of the Hiven's that created some of the awesome Splinterland giveways in which I was participating in at the time. Looking at yous @simplymike , @o07 , @dosdudes , @ngc , @doctorcrypto.

I wasn't a big gamer at the time. Heck I'm still not that big of a gamer. In fact Splinterlands occupies 90% of my gaming time. The other 10% belongs to gaming systems that bring me nostalgia (Hello NES/SNES). What makes this day so memorable is not only did I purchase my first Splinterlands booster (which was an Alpha Booster) but the contents of that booster put me in the Splinterlands history books (not an actual thing but should be).

As I flipped over that first card I noticed it turned gold. I thought to myself, "That's cool, a gold one. I wonder what its worth". Due to my lack of experience in such games it was unknown to me (at the time of the opening) how lucky I was to have flipped a Gold Foil Legendary in my first ever purchased Booster pack. The other cards were awesome as well (Haunted Spirit / Hell Yes!).

At the time of opening there were only 21 GOLD DRAGON's that were of the Gold variety in existance (Today there is 27). My curiosity got the better of me and I checked the Splinterlands marketplace to see what its then value was, $ 1190 - $ 1337 .... Unbelievable! I was ecstatic and instantly hooked. I to this day still own this card. I have always said that someone would have to pry it out of my cold dead hands before I would ever sell it. Lets take a look at its today (9/21/2021) USD Value.

image.png

Hot diggity dog, the cheapest GFL Gold Dragon on the Splinterlands Market Place will cost $250,000 USD. Will someone pay that price (who knows, crazier things have happened in the world of crypto). But as everyone knows, asking price isn't always a true value of somethings worth. Is it in this case, I can't say. You the reader can be the judge of that. Click here to view source information.

GOLD DRAGON LORE

There is only one living Golden Dragon, and he presides over the great Dragon Congress. His magic and armor are the greatest, and only the Hydra has put his mettle to the test. Suam Khepri, the leader of the united Gloridax, is always on the lookout for the next Gold Dragon, which prophecy says will hatch in these times. Lore taken from official Splinterlands site.

So I have to ask, do you ever take your Quarter Million Dollar card out to play with it? Or do you keep it locked away in a secret vault somewhere? I think that's what I would do. Keep it secret, keep it safe!

I play it from time to time. Usually when the bronze gold foil tournaments come around. I come to realize my collection isn't much good for tournament play. I can sneak in the bottom payout levels but thats about it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

That's pretty much how I play tournaments too. I do fairly well in the Silver League tournaments, usually placing in the lower payout levels. It's not a lot, but it does bring in a little extra DEC and now SPS.

You can lock them AND play them. That's kinda nice.

And when you play with them, the corners won't get bent or torn and loose their value!

I remember how I participated in your card draws and even received some cards a couple of times. Cool.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Ah yes, my blog was once filled with giveaways and small contests. I still create some from time to time. I remember you entering them. Congrats on winning a card or two :)

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Nice to know you still hold the card, I could have pinched you from my phone if you had sold it. Depending on how berserk Splinterlands goes, that price might be very attractive to some people for holding sake.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Pinch me, that sounds painful :)

Thanks for the comment it made me laugh out loud. It'll be interesting to see where the prices of everything will be at a year from now.

Holy crap, you absolute monster lol. Thats a badass card

Hell Yeah It Is :)

It is clear that there is a great benefit in being one of the pioneers in the world of NFT games.

Wow, awesome to get a Gold Foil Golden Dragon out of your first Alpha booster pack. Well done!

Almost as crazy is that I never flipped another one since.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Lol I guess you cheered like crazy after you realised what you pulled. Great story!
Happy splintertime

I had no clue its value when I first flipped it. I cheered after I checked its value :)

Yesterday I put almost all my spt delegated to you. Because you are active here.

Thanks for the delegation. Feel free to remove it whenever you want. Having it staked in your own account will allow you to earn curation rewards when you upvote SPT content.

That means it's better?

When Someone upvotes your content the author (you) gets 50% of the displayed rewards. The curator (upvoters) share the other 50% in a ratio that is dependent on their vote weight/vote timing. For example I just upvoted your comment above. If you go to https://www.splintertalk.io/@dekleine043/re-rentmoney-ktvvxetf you will see that your above comment that I just upvoted has 66 SPT in rewards pending. You will earn 33 SPT because you are the author of the upvoted comment. I and other upvoters of your comment will then share the other 33 SPT based on our vote weight/ vote timing and possibly some other stuff I know nothing about.

Ok thanks to explain

You are welcome.

I remember when I opened my first gold foil from a rewards chest back in 2019. It was a Black Dragon and then less than a month later I found another gold foil in a rewards chest, this time a Sacred Unicorn.

WOW, nicely done!

Do you still have them or did you sell?

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

No I sold them right away. At the time I had very little crypto and only a tiny Splinterlands collection. And so at the time selling made sense.

At this point I have a decent crypto portfolio, and I am in hodl mode with my Splinterland assets regardless of price. Last spring I bought a gold foil Bila the Radiant for $60, now valued at $1500. I consider her to be my baby and the centerpiece of my collection.

That would buy a very nice house! Congratz on pulling such a nice card. Chaos is coming out soon maybe a new rare legendary will be pulled! Fingers Crossed.

It certainly would, I'll happily sell mine for the $250,000 USD asking price. Chaos is soon(ish) fingers crossed that we both flip some GFL's.

😲 That's awesome @rentmoney! Congrats brother!

Thanks!

What a Dope flip! Congratulations!

Thanks.... I'm more amazed by it today then when I first flipped it.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Holy hell, !!!!!!!!!!
That's really a crypto world happening miracle
Congraz man!

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Thanks, I didn't realize how lucky I was at the time of opening.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

sounds like you did not keep the card? LOL

Absolutely glorifying! I love to see success at this level!

Cheers!

Anybody know what the most expensive Splinterlands card has sold for?

$10,000 USD might be the high but I'm not 100% sure.

Im so envious, I started playing splinterlands just a couple of months ago this year. I've opened up about 10 beta packs and 15 untamed packs but couldnt get any worthy cards. But still I love this game and I enjoy every minute I spend playing. <3

Congrats, you are earlier then most. Opening packs can be fun, Choas boosters are just around the corner and they should be allot more cost-effective than packs on the secondary markets.
